Clinical Psychology Services

I offer the following clinical psychology services to adults:
  • Psychological assessment and diagnosis.
  • General counselling and psychotherapy.
  • Trauma therapy for people who have experienced highly stressful and life threatening situations.
  • Medico-legal assessments for people in immigration pathways.
I provide caring and confidential therapy using an informed and non-judgemental approach.  My aim is to assist you to achieve changes that have a lasting benefit for your wellbeing and quality of life. The approaches I use have been demonstrated to be effective by current psychological research.
I am able to assist with the prevention of psychological problems, as well as for difficulties that can vary from mild to complex and more severe problems.

Psychological Therapy

You don't have to be in crisis or have a mental health issue to benefit from psychological therapy. Psychological therapy offers opportunities to explore all aspects of life experience, from personal development to conditions like anxiety and depression, trauma, bereavement, illness and relationship problems.

Psychological therapy can often help when you can't easily sort your difficulties out through your own efforts.
Life can be very challenging sometimes and it can be helpful to get a little extra support at times. Often when difficulties arise, part of the problem can be finding someone to talk to who is neutral. A trained therapist is neutral and non-judgemental. A trained therapist will listen carefully to you and help provide clarity, understanding, insight, support and direction.

Psychological therapy is a strong and effective form of support that can help you to overcome the challenges you face. There is now a well established body of scientific evidence that demonstrates its effectiveness.

I endeavour to provide you with a service that is professional, warm, compassionate, and sincere. I aim to provide a safe place where you can comfortably express yourself and your needs.  The establishment of a comfortable and trusting relationship is essential to your treatment. This has been well studied and shown to be an important part of successful treatment. To get the full benefit of psychological therapy, it's important to choose a therapist you trust and feel comfortable with.

I will work with you and your experiences to determine where you want or need to be. In this way, my service is focused on you and tailored to your individual needs and circumstances.

I am trained in a range of therapeutic modalities and use them flexibly to suit each individual's style and set of circumstances.  I am trained in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) which targets thinking and mood and has shown to be widely effective.   I have undertaken further professional development in InterPersonal Therapy (IPT), Psychodynamic Therapy, Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Narrative Therapy, Solution Focussed Therapy and culturally responsive approaches.

What to Expect

Psychological therapy appointments generally last fifty minutes to one hour.

The initial appointment can last up to 90 minutes. You may feel anxious at the first appointment but people often find they are relaxed by the end. The first appointment is mainly about getting to know you and your concerns, gathering some background information, and understanding what you are hoping to gain from therapy.
This first appointment will also give you the opportunity to decide whether psychotherapy is right for you and for us to decide whether we can work together.

Psychological therapy generally has a beginning, a middle, and an end. After the initial meeting we will go over your goals and regularly check in to see how we are doing in meeting those goals, if they need to be adjusted, and if we are in fact nearing the end of your therapy. You don't have to be concerned about therapy being an open ended and never ending process. Even during longer term treatment there is a focus and goals are worked towards with your preferences in mind.
